The Goodness That Never Fades

The Lord is good, a refuge in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. (Nahum 1:7)

Nahum 1:7 declares a truth that transcends hardship: God’s goodness is not conditional on our circumstances but rooted in His eternal nature. When trials storm our lives—be they relational conflicts, financial strain, or personal loss—His goodness becomes a fortress. This verse does not promise a life without trouble, but a God within trouble who remains a refuge. His 'knowing' those who trust Him implies intimate awareness and active protection, turning our anxiety into a posture of surrender.

Consider the farmer whose crops wither in drought. The world might deem this a disaster, yet Nahum frames it as a test of trust. God’s goodness is not erased by barren fields but revealed through the farmer’s reliance on Him for rain. Similarly, in your struggles, His goodness is the lens through which you interpret pain. It is not a denial of suffering but a conviction that He weaves purpose into every trial, guiding you to His 'abundance of peace' (Isaiah 26:3).

Practically, how do we 'trust' as Nahum describes? Begin by meditating on His character, not merely His blessings.
